Quote of the day

So, EA Games just bought Bioware/Pandemic for $620 million dollars. You may recognize them from titles like Knights of the Old Republic, or Mercenaries 1 & 2. EA games hasn't been doing so hot lately, so a lot of people think that they were pretty stupid to allow themselves to be bought. One guy on Slashdot responded to that with:

I'm sure they are feeling none too smart... them and their HALF A BILLION DOLLARS.

Heres hoping that Bioware/Pandemic get to keep enough creative freedom that their quality doesn't drop.

Well, since you turned off comment moderation I guess I can say anything I want here now. Including something entirely unrelated....

Did you know that the population of Estonia is estimated to be 1,315,912?

The problems with developing games after being bought by EA isn't much different than developing games for a publishing company. I don't think their creative process is going to change that much because of it. What might change is key designers leaving purely out of principle, like what happened when Blizzard became a division of Vivendi Games.

The only thing we really attribute to EA as being evil and a black hole of innovation was their EA Spouse incident and their yearly releases of EA sports games. They do have some winners such as the Sims and Battlefield, so I don't think they are that much different than other publishers.

I, like most geeks, still wish EA would die though.
